Agastheeswaram is a town in Kanniyakumari district. A Nadar
Family ruled Agastheeswaram and they had a fort and were allowed to have 100
soldiers by Travancore Samasthanam.
During the “Upper cloth controversy” instead of supporting
their own caste men, they supported the upper class men and claimed that only
their (Agastheeswaram Nadars) women only have the right to wear an upper cloth
and not the other Nadars.
In Travancore state manual, there is a note of Agastheeswaram Nadars as follows
"This is also the headquarters of the Shanar tribe, where their Nadan or chieftain resides, who was formerly allowed the privileges of having a fort, of riding in a palanquin and of retaining a hundred armed attendants."

Anyone knows about a man called Pandari Nadar who lived in Agastheeswarm in 1830s?
